PCGU1000 function generator installs OK, but won't turn on

I’ve tried the stock drivers on the supplied CD, and two others from the web site. Drivers seem to install properly, serial port is created (COM3 or COM4) along with USB device. PCGU1000 is detected when the USB cable is first plugged in. But upon attempted startup in the PClab application, the error message ‘No Function Generator response. Check the power adaptor…’ message appears. No ON/READY led. Power adapter puts out 9.62VDC. Tried the ‘emulate XP’ and ‘run as administrator’ tricks. Tried disabling firewall! Tried both Vista home basic and WindowsXP home. PCSU1000 scope works on both systems.

Can anyone shed some light on the cause of this common problem, and what needs to be fixed to resolve it? Are there some bad units out there, or is it a driver/software issue?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Most probably there is a hardware problem with the PCGU1000. You have to return it for checking.

Here’s an update:

I’ve tried the PCGU1000 I have been having problems with on yet another computer system (this one a desktop with Windows XP pro). This time it works with no problems (using the same software), but when I try the PCGU1000 back on the other systems, it won’t power on.

This is crazy. What’s going on??? Did I get a bad unit?

I noticed several others have had the same experience with this product.

What’s the problem with the PCGU1000’s USB subsystem?

Is there a replacement/updated product planned for release? The existing situation makes the PCGU1000 (at least my unit) mostly unusable.

I have got the same problems and I am shipping my unit back. Anyone else had the same issue?

I returned my unit for checkout, and a new replacement was eventually sent out that seems to be OK.

All in all, it took almost 20 weeks to get this fixed.

Hi, I have the same problem on both my computers using Vista. I just bought the unit and my project is stalled, very sad…

Same problems, same result even the replacement!
