PCGU1000 driver for Windows Seven x64

Hi everyone,

I managed to install my PCGU1000 on Windows Seven x64. Actually, the driver provided by Velleman (pcgu1000_driver_5_4_0_0.zip) is working fine on x64 systems… except that it is not digitally signed !

To get it working, you have to sign the driver by yourself before installing it.
Here is a quick guide explaining how to do this.

Now the ugly part…
As the driver is self-signed, you have to enable Windows Test Mode, which is basically a mode allowing drivers developers to test their drivers without having to sign it with the real certificate. This is definitely not wanted in a production environment…

Does Velleman plan to release a digitally signed driver for x64 systems?

Kind Regards,
Cédric

Indeed, this workaround seems to work well:
Hit F8 key during boot and then select Disable Driver Signature Enforcement from the Advanced Boot Options. You can install the normal PCGU1000 driver version 5.4.0.0 and run the PCGU1000. The biggest downside is that you will need to hit F8 key every time your Windows boot.

Here is another workaround to run in Windows normal mode:
Download and run the program CP210x_VCP_Win2K_XP_S2K3.exe
Run it with all the default settings.
It installs the Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART Bridge Virtual COM Port (VCP) driver version 5.4.0.0.

Plug in the PCGU1000 and install its driver version 5.4.0.0 downloaded from Velleman site (if not yet installed).
Download link: velleman.eu/downloads/files/ … k_rev4.zip

When done, run PcLab2000SE and check the PCGU1000 is running well.

Important:
If the User Account Control (UAC) is on, then the PcLab2000SE has to be run under administrator account.
Right-click on the PcLab2000SE either on the desktop or in the programs list, choose Properties, switch to the Compatibility tab, and select “Run this program as an administrator".

Finally you can remove the Silicon Labs driver and its removal program using Control panel: Programs / Uninstall a program option.

Thanks, I’ll try that this evening !

It worked like a charm, thanks for the tip !

Thank you for the reply. It is good to know that there are now workarounds to use…
