No filament at start

So, total n00b here. I’ve assembled and calibrated my printer and it works just fine, except that there’s no filament coming out at start of print so the “frame” that’s printed around the object becomes just nothing, or just a very small hint of it. But filament start to flow when printing the real object, or at least very soon after so the end result is still ok.

Any hints on what the cause might be? Clogged nozzle? Bad setting? Should I be able to change some setting to fix this (I’m using Cura for slicing)?

Move your bed a bit closer to the nozzle (recalibrate the Z axis).

That is just the nozzle that is not properly loaded. Manualy extrude it via repetier or via the display.

Thank you both!

I’m on mac and use Cura (Repetier mac version seems very outdated) but did recalibrate Z axis and moved it a bit closer (3 sheets of 80g paper instead of 4) and got a proper first layer, including the “fence”. Big improvement!

Well, didn’t work for long. Next print starts with bad flow again… Must try fiddling with the extrusion then.

prime the nozzle before printing and it will be good again

For best result try to use the Vertex Repetier host software (only win at the moment but this will probably change) It takes care of all these problems with tailored config files.

Well I don’t have PC or Win license to that’s difficult.
