Need help modifying K2573 pre-amp

Hello all

First; thank you, Velleman, for this pre-amp kit. It’s very nice, easy to build (especially for noobs like myself)

I have some issues though;

  1. The output signal is low, I need about 10dB or so more (based on my receiver usually running at -25dB and now needs to be set to -15dB for decent volume).
    I read in this forum I need to decrease the value for R8 and R9 (3k3 currently) but I don’t know how much to decrease. Should I jump to 2k2, or will that be too low?

  2. The record player I built the pre-amp in (with help from my dad who has serviced these players for over 3 decades) has a stable 12v line which functions fine, but the power is switched on when the needle-arm is placed over the record. Which is great, but at that moment a fairly loud pop is heard. At the end of the record, when the player returns the arm and turns off, again a fairly loud pop is heard.

Not keen on destroying a vintage set of amplifier and record player, I was wondering how to remedy.
With my little-to-none understanding of electronics; could it be as simple as placing a capacitor (elco) over the dc wires?

Thanks to anyone with hints and tutoring.

Remon.
