My solution for keeping the printer tucked away

I live in quite a small apartment and as printer was starting to bug me with the space it took on the TV table i decided to tuck it into my closet

Unsuspicious closet

Open closet

Retractable board

Closeup

Note that all of the wiring is not complete, i need quite a long drill to pass my usb cable trough the wall

I like that
You can get a Raspberry Pi and put Octoprint on it with a WiFi card on it then the only thing you need as far as wiring is power.
You can also mount a camera so you can print and watch it from a remote location.

Now I think I will clean out a closet.
Thanks
Lol

These are my exact plans, as soon as i get the drill to go through the wall with my usb cable i will mount a 4 ports USB hub on the inside to be able to overview with my webcam aswell. As i have noticed it gets increasingly warm inside the closed closet i will hook up a cpu fan to cool down the controlboard and maybe saw a small air vent in the top of the door, running a 140mm fan there

Sounds like you are making a great environment for the printer
Since it warmer to start time should be shorter

Yes you are right, and the filament might not tend to snap as easy when the roll is almost empty

Though i encountered technical diffifulties, i made a video clip of me opening and closing the closet, and while retracting the shelf the power supply cable to the adapter moved slightly due to it’s hanging directly from the outlet and i lost power, it seems it has to lay in a certain angle to work, and yes i have tried pushing them deeper together to the point my fingers got sore

Got me a bit annoyed that it could come loose so easily but i was lucky the print i was waiting on would’ve failed, it already had

A word of caution
The way you have the USB cable hanging looks like you could easily rip it off the board
You might want to cable tie it to the frame.
It’s better to damage the cable then the control board

Absolutely right, i will fasten the usb cable as soon as i have gotten the adapter in

Nice solution. I see the kitchen in the background, so when you start with ABS it would be a good idea to make a connection to the air suction system.

Very interesting, hadnt thought of that, i havent really read up anything on ABS - i will start to research that

I’ve only had the printer for 2 weeks so far

Nice work. I would add a smoke detector too, just in case…
