My printer assembly/usage review and useful software info

I’ve finished my K8200 assembly, testing, calibrating and printing steps. All in all I’m pretty satisfied to not have suffered from too many issues.

I only came across 2 tiny issues. I was missing bag 31 and I plugged the thermistor of the heated bed into the wrong socket on the controller.
Both issues were quickly noticed/resolved and all is working well against my expectations since soldering the small flatcable wires is not my speciality although it turned out to be just fine.

For those interested on what platform I installed the Repetier & Slic3r software on I can share the following:-

  • PC: 32bit tablet pc
  • OS: Windows 8.1 RTM (default .NET framework 4.0 comes with Windows 8.1 but Repetier asks to install 3.5)
  • Repetier V0.90
  • Slic3r 0.9.10b
  • Slic3r configuration file k8200_pla_standard_new.ini

A small enhancement I made was that I printed a pipe clamp to protect the flatcable from the heated bed from being touched/damaged by the belt of Y

Can anybody explain what the function of the fan is? Is it to cool the object that’s being printed or is it to cool the extruder heater? Does it need a nozzle?

Thanks

The original design of the heatbed wiring is not very good. I use a own designed cable chain. Can you please make a piture of your solution?

The fan is used for cooling the top layer of the part and is controlled regarding of the print time of each layer. Cooling becomes also very important when printing difficult regions like bridges and overhangs.

@edirol

Thank you.

I used the original instructions for the flatcable but since it was touching the y belt it will get damaged over time.
This is the clamp is used thingiverse.com/thing:12083
You have to cut one end (flat surface with a screw hole) and place it over the y belt using the other screw hole for fixation next to the belt holder.
