Hello,
i have some photos with 3D prints, what I downloaded and printed out. I use Repetier-Host with Velleman Cura slicing engine with default settings. Green Vertex logo ABS printed on Buildtak with Brim option (when i removed Vertex logo, buildtak is also destroyed, i don’t use Buildtak anymore). Then i printed blue Bricks ABS with Brim option on Glasplate and used Glue-Stic with warping effect. Then Octahedron ABS with Brim option on Glasplate-Glue-Stic with warping effect. Then i changed from ABS to Orange PLA as you can see all Orange brics printed without warping effect and without Brim option on Glasplate with Glue Stic. But i released up side of the brics are not closing right looks distorted. Minecraft tools has like this distortions on the bottom layer. I think heat 210 maybe okay but there is flow problems with PLA. Because i’m new to 3D printing i can’t change settings for print quality or other things like i saw somewhere “retraction 3mm 150 mm/sec”. Can somebody help with some settings for the PLA filament and Repetier-Host Cura slicing engine. Or changing ABS to PLA makes nozzle problems. After loading PLA i thougt prints will get much nicer quality. Okay i know, i must learn much.
Another point there is only one Print quality option “0.1mm” under Slice with CuraEngine Configuration.
Please feel free to tell your opinion. Photos coming…
First thing I learned by reading other experiences: stay away from ABS until you know what you’re doing ;).
Second thing: if you are like me, a beginner, take it one step at a time, try to print simple things and see if you can improve it.
Then, print something simple again, and again…
I’m learning every day and sometimes when I think I know what to do, the next (small print) is not what I expected.
But, that is all part of the fun for me :).
To get a 0.2 mm quality option, open the Cura configuration and under “Speed & quality” just press the + button, it will add it. Then change the layer height to 0.2025 and don’t forget to save your profile.
To prevent warping without the Buildtak, you need a heated bed, especially for ABS (on my K8200 I print ABS with a Heatbed at 85°, a 5mm brim and coating the glass plate with PVC glue).
My setting for PLA is 200° and 70-75% flow (vary with the color and brand).
To get a better surface set the top/bottom thickness (Structures tab in Cura settings) between 0.6 and 1 mm and for small or thin objects like your lego bricks set the infill to 60%.

Hello again Raby,
I will try to change this settings (Screenshots is sometimes helpful for newbees like me). Can you explaine little more about quality settings, for example Ultimaker specifications 0.02 resolution for me as a newbee difficult to understand; Vertex3d Printer specifications wrote 0.05 resolution. This means can Ultimaker FullHD but Vertex Can only hd-ready mmmm?
Kindly regards
Niyazi
Hello,
first of all Special thanks to “Raby” and “h60”. I changed Settings under the Repetier-Host Slicing with Cura software. Here are the results. I also added screenshots from my software settings thank to Raby and h60.
Regards
Niyazi
[b]p.s. Raby i forgot infill to Change 60% in first screenshot you can see there is only 20% infill.
Glad you could improve your prints.
Lower infill wont affect the general look of your pieces but with 60% your pieces will be more sturdy.
Hello again Raby,
my last 3d Orange PLA brick prints has been printed with 0.2mm Quality. Can i also use same settings for 0.1mm Quality profile or this will change nothing. Because of Vertex 3d Printer specification can we also create quality profile for 0.05mm? Or did i got that totally wrong? I know too many questions…
Hello AlmAck,
10x10x10 cm or mm? Please can you give me information about settings for 0.05(Layer Height and First Layer Height)?
10x10x10 mm
here a picture, was not easy with the white PLA to take a shot of the layers, I tried my best.
(from the left to the right: 0.2, 0.1 and 0.5)
The right one is actually 0.05 or ?
Yes correct, I dont’ remember how long it tooks to print it, but is only 10x10x10mm is quite small. You can try yourself, if I remember correctly I used this one: thingiverse.com/thing:559551
