Hi,
I
hope I’m in the right section. I’m trying to combine a VM202N MP3 Jukebox module with the VMA408 Super mini Digital Amplifier board for a Top Gun related project. I’m feeding both with an Adafruit Powerboost module and have measured I’m powering both successfully with 5 Volts of current.
I’m hearing 5 seconds of audio and then the volume fades away. The mp3 parts still seems to play, the light on the USB stick keeps flashing while reading, but I can’t hear any audio. I tried changing the MP3 file with the same results. 5 seconds audio and fade out to silence. Powering down everything and restarting gives me the same 5seconds than fade out. I haven’t used the pins for Switch/GND on the amplifier, not sure what to do with those.
I’ll include a crude drawing of what is going on:
Any help is greatly appreciated. I’m a novice, don’t know most of the time what I’m doing but eager to learn.
Edit: A small video of the problem
What kind of power supply are you using volts / amps?
An official Raspberry Pi 5.1V 2.5 A power supply. (https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/raspberry-pi-universal-power-supply) When measuring both cards I’m getting the 5 Volts.
Well that is not the problem.
Just a guess but did you try a different type of speaker
I did change the speakers. I bought new ones after I also suspected the speakers were at fault. I was assured they were the correct type for the tiny amplifier. (https://www.gotron.be/licht-geluid/geluid/luidsprekers/mini-luidsprekers/4-0cm-miniatuur-luidsprelker-8-ohm.html)
At this time I do not have either of those items so I can’t say if it is the speak but it sounds like you have that covered.
Have you tried to plug the VM202N in to a different amp?
This may indicate if the problem if the problem is in the MP3 player or the amp
Also have you tried a different MP3 file?
There might be something the VM202N doesn’t like about the format.
As you can tell I am really guessing now.
Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll try to connect a portable MP3 player to the amplifier. I did try different mp3’s 128mbps, 192mpbs, constant bit rate, variable bit rate. Formatting the usb to fat16 and fat32. Another thing I noticed is that the SD card reader doesn’t work, only the USB connector.
I might take it back to the shop for that reason alone. I’ll report back with my findings.
As a follow up: I returned the MP3 kit to the sore I bought it from and got a new board, came home connected everything and… Success.
It was indeed a faulty VM202N MP3 Jukebox module. Thanks for the assist and advice.
Glad to hear you got it sorted out.
Enjoy!
