Motors skipping steps when printing (K8200 with RAMPS 1.4)

Hello all,

I managed to kill the original K8200 controller board so I have replaced it with a RAMPS 1.4 board which I after much tinkering with code I have it set-up and running well.

The only problem I have is that the X-axes occasionally misses a load of steps, when it does this the motor is making noise but doesn’t move and the printer continues approx 1 inch away from where it should be.

The other axes do the same thing, but nowhere near as extreme as the x-axes, so I’ll deal with that one first and the answer should be usable to sort the other axes.

I have checked the voltage going from all of the stepper controllers, they are all set to 0.55v which was working fine with the K8200 board.

Does anybody know whether the RAMPS board requires a different voltage, I thought that the motor controller boards directly output the signal to the motor pins.

On the other hand would this happen if I have connected the signal and voltage pins the wrong way round i.e. instead of 1A 1B 2A 2B, I’ve connected them 1B 1A 2B 2A?

Thank you in advance.
Jim

Hi all, after much experimenting I’ve managed to get it working much better by setting all the motor controllers to 0.325v.
