Motor problem and defect board

Dear Support,

I have ordered the K8200 printer from Reichelt Electronics in Germany last week.
After assembly I had a big problem accordingly to the movement of X,Y,Z motors
(Extruder motor was not be tested first)
Fist all three motors (X,Y,Z) were not functioning correctly and in the end (after 1 hour of testing)
the control board cannot communicate with the PC: the control board seems to be completely dead,
no response to the movement commands (from RepetierHost, Manual Cotrol ) is more possible.
I suppose, that the control board (or the motor drivers) were already defect, before the complete
control board dead.

I have calibrated all motor drivers (0.425V adjusted) the electrical connections were OK, no
mechanical overload was available (I have disconnected one motor from mechanical connection for test purposes)
The adjustment of movement parameters (in RepetierHost) was like described in your assembly and connecting
document (E400_VELLEMAN_K8200_002-CONNECTINGTHEPRINTER.pdf)

The behaviour before control board dead was:

  • X and Y motors can move, but with “shaking” behaviour. For example the X motor should
move 10 mm right but it moves more times forwards and backwards.
  • The Z motor: no movement possible, the “shaking” behaviour happens with high frequency,
    no real movement is possible
The other components (heaters, temperature sensor, fan) were functioning fine.
Before board dead I have observed that two motor driver LEDs were shortly red,
after that the control board doesn`t communicate. Another observation was, that the
motor drivers were very hot after short movement.

I have already contacted Reichelt Electronics accordingly to the replacement
of the board, but they tell me, that the faster way is Vellemann forum.

Please help me, what can do with the defect control board?

Best Regards

Hi id65,

Sounds like a very weird problem. Can you measure the voltage of your adapter and paste your findings below.

Can you send your board with a full description of the problem (copy of your post is fine) and your address to:

Service Department
Legen Heirweg 33
B-9890 GAVERE
België (Europa)

We will inspect your board and send you a replacement.

Hello VEL327,

thank you for fast reply. I have measured the power supply voltage: 15.4V very stable,
it seems to be OK. So, I will send the board like suggested to Velleman.
Accordingly to the control board: is it also possible to purchase the control board from
Any distributor directly in Germany (as a backup board for the future) ?

Thanks and best Regards,

ID65

Dear VEL 327,
I have sent the defect board on 14.08.2013 to Velleman for replacement,
but until now I have recived no reply.

  • Could you send me please concrete statement about the time, when I
can expect the board? Very urgend, I cannot print without the board!
  • Where can I purchase the control board from Any distributor directly
in Germany (as a backup board for the future) ?

Bet Regards,

Hellou,

I have a problem print K8200. Motor does not rotate properly. I shot video youtube.com/watch?v=6gt-E-Nh2uk
I’m sorry I can not much English. ¨

It’s the same problem?

There are problems with some motors, at least for 2 different customers.
I had one motor that does not turn well by hand. Check this out. If so, you can take apart this motor and clean it up, fill with fresh new lubricant or put away the lubricant and place it where it should be. (Not too much on the gears.)

OR check the assembly of the tooth-wheel, can it rotate freely without any problem by hand?

OR just use this motor for the Z-Axis as I did. Works there, because Z does not needs to move fast.

OR it is maybe also that the voltage / power is not enough to move the motor.

I did test 2.

Motor is fine.
It may be in the voltage / power supply?

A slight resistance in the motor is normal

Never rotate the motor while connected to the board, specially with power ON

First: It is never a good idea to switch cables with the power still connected, electronics get damaged very easily that way.

It seems that your stepper driver is faulty. This is the small pcb on top of the motherboard.

You can unplug this part and send it to:

We will check the part and send you a replacement asap.

I think this one should be the same (?)
At least it has the same chip and pinout.

Is it normal that the motors make some high-frequency noise after the movement has stopped ?

id65

The board has been repaired and sent back to you, so it will arrive any day now.

Yes Skywatcher the noise is normal.
