I have a big problem tonight. I think my vertex’s motherboard is dead. When I changed the filament by using “Unload PLA Filament”, the LCD screen was blinking, and after 2 or 3 seconds, all the square on the LCD were illuminate, but any letter or number. I have press the reset button near the screen, anything, so I have tried with the other button near the USB connector on the right pannel, anything ; I quickly unplug from the 220V alimentation. When I tried to restart my Vertex, the same thing (except the screen blinking) repeat and I have seen sparks on the heater cartridge (Right / Head1).
I have seen there was a short dead (short circuit ???) between the two heater cartrige wires. The thermal jacket is retracted and the two nude wires are touching each other. I think this lack has burn the mother board, and I have been affraid by the sparks. What I have read on this forum says me that problem on the printhead are already products.
I had detected a similar problem on the thermistor, 3 months ago, but I intervened before any breakdown. I am a Customer of Atlantic Composants at Angers, France, and tried to have replacement piece like original thermal Jacket. You don’t sell that, I had to buy a header cartridge (9 euros approximately) and divise the thermal Jacket for replace the lack on thermistor (after disassembling the printhead whith difficulties : the heater block and the nozzle were like glues, welded by heat I suppose / and after you must to adjust your printer !!!)
I am trying to repair the k8400 since 4 hours (first by reload the marlin, between 3 or 4 trials / change the heater cartridge / look the other connectors). But I must to go to the obvious, I am sure my mother board is dead.
I was thinking that the Vertex was a good 3D Printer, but now I am disappointed. I hope that’s only an accident and there will be a solution with Velleman or my local dealer. I want to quickly recover a functional machine, I have printed the equivalent of roughly 6 rolls since April, and I have other projects with this tool.
The next maturity is our participation trophy robotics March 19, 2016 (EUROBOT “Beach Bots”) and we want to enjoy the winter holidays to build our robot. Without the Vertex, it will be very difficult, our robot conception was based on lot of printed pièces.
I expect from you a satisfactory answer and fast enough to find solutions to the problems I encounter and that could jeopardize seriously the participation of the team of kids that I coach. Thank you in advance for your concern.
