Seem to get different issues on battery v PSU, what is it supposed to do?
Reindeer legs and santa hat tail seem to flash v fast on PSU, slower on battery, and slower if on PSU with battery fitted. Also only some red leds on sled base work - this seems to follow a pattern i.e. one works, two don’t, one works etc. Again it is different if battery fitted and run off PSU - just alternate LEDs completely off but some intermediates much dimmer.
Also the green LEDs on the leash - none work on battery only, alternate leds on PSU or PSU&battery. Appreciate what you say about soldering errors/pcb damage on this kit, but I have had a good look and can’t see any obvious probs. Is there a circuit & solder layer diagram I can look at to start with to try & identify common components and switching paths? Previous links to the circuit diagram are now broken.
Fast flashing of legs and Santa’s hat is a giveaway for incorrect mounted capacitors. If you mount the capacitors incorrect the flash timing of the LEDs is off. On the sled you get a pattern instead of “running” LEDs. Also some LEDs don’t light as bright as they should. Check if the right value capacitors are mounted in their spots. They all look the same but have different values…
No offense, but if there aren’t any errors it should work
If you can, please provide sharp and clear hi-res pictures of both component and solderside.
Use a free picture base, as this forum does not allow to post pictures.
Sorry, picture quality does not allow us to check soldering properly.
Make sure BC547 and BC557 transistors are not mixed up.
Check led orientation.
Check for broken tracks/pads/loose/forgotten/bad solderings
All “running” LEDs are off and there aren’t errors on the circuit, the right value capacitors are mounted in their spots with the correct polarity
What should I do?
Check for accidental short-circuits. Happened to me too on a single spot.
