Hello I am new to this site and to electronics. I thought it would be a good way to spend time with my son and figured I am handy enough to pull it off. Unfortunately, I have failed miserably. First I screwed up the polarity on both the LEDs and the big capacitor. Now that I have them sorted I still get no results. I tested the LEDs and they work. I posted a picture of the back at
I wonder if anyone can give me some advice. I tried to remove any excess solder but that didn’t help.
Sorry, but the soldering looks very poor.
Lots of joints need rework.
Make sure that you do not heat too long, otherwise the copper will release from the board.
A picture of the component side can help us check your component placement.
If you start at the second L of Velleman on the picture, go up, cross the three print lanes, you see a soldering island with only a component wire sticking out. Try to solder this correctly. Touch up all the other islands too because soldering is indeed very poorly done. Screwing up polarities and components? Mostly a problem of time: ALWAYS take your time when building a kit. Doing it too fast is the most important source of these kind of errors.
