Lubrication of plastic gear wheels

Hello,

all in all I am really satisfied with the K8200!

But one question: Is it necessary to lubricate the plastic gear wheels of the extruder? After about 3 hours printing time I have litte abrasion on the wheels.

Thanks, best regards

Flo

Make sure the gears are not too close together, as this causes more friction and wear and tear, noticeable by the plastic getting kind of white/dusty.

Ok thanks!

So lubrication in not necessary?

No, they don’t need lubrication

And if you want a brand new gear you can print yourself a new one

I see the same wear on my gears. The gears have a chalky coating on the wear surfaces. It’s minimal, but I could see this being an issue if you do a LOT of printing. I’m thinking of using a little lithium grease. Surely, this will not cause harm.
