Layer not fully filled

Hi everyone,

I noticed that my bottom and top layers not always are fully filled. I am quite sure it’s a setting in the slicer somewhere.
But which? There are so many parameters :open_mouth:

It looks that your bed is not perfectly horizontal or flat (upper layers are better than the lower ones). Isn’t your nozzle a bit too far from the bed? And/or partially clogged (I see some blobs and burned filament).

I will align the bed again…
How can I fix that clogged nozzle?

Cheers,
Dylan

Perhaps it’s not. To check it do the following :
Lower the bed at least 10 cm. Check if there’s no burnt filament stuck under the heater. Remove it if there is (gently scrape it with a cutter - careful not to damage the point of the nozzle or the wires of the thermistor)
Then heat the nozzle manually and when hot extrude a few cm filament. The filament must fall straight down (nor curled) and it’s diameter must be 0.35 mm all along. If you don’t get that it might be clogged.

What are your Cura settings for the filament (diameter of the filament, flow).
What is your layer height (is the first layer on 100%?).

The first layer is on 100%
Flow is on 100% -> maybe that’s too much?
Diameter filament 1,80 mm I measured it with a callipers.
Mostly the filament has a diameter of 1,80 mm sometimes 1,77 mm.

The filament first make a drop and then it falls down. After that the filament comes out without any problem and it’s overal the same diameter.
Yesterday the filament came out as pieces with sometimes a normal diameter and sometimes a small diameter. That’s something that is gone.
The nozzle is a bit black also… Is that the burned filament?

Cheers,
Dylan

Your nozzle seems reasonably clean.

The filament should have a diameter of 1.75 mm or a bit less but at 1.8 it might get stuck from time to time explaining the flow variations.

I tried to print again and it’s the same problem.

So I can’t use this spool?

Cheers,
Dylan

At least try with another one. What brand do you use?

I had also one from the brand Renkforce from Conrad.
I tried it and the prints are absolutely perfect! The spool is in plastic and fits perfectly on the spoolholder.

The problem spool was from YS filament (never heard from it and I didn’t find the company on the internet). I bought it at a local 3D printer store.
They sell printers, filament, give workshop, … So I thought that’s a good source for filament :open_mouth: The spool is made from carton.

Cheers,
Dylan

Glad to hear your problem is solved

Noname filament can be very crappy. I’m using Esun and Polymkr filaments and I’m happy with them.

Now I use Renkforce and it’s perfectly!
I learned a new lesson today

Cheers,
Dylan
