Using the function generator in series with an external power supply…is the ground floating and if so what is the Voltage limit? My DUT has a variable high resistive load, (20-40A) @ +5VDC.
Which function generator?
Dear Guru, the FG is PCGU1000.
The PCGU1000 is optically isolated from the PC. The output ground is common with the 9V wall wart ground, which is isolated from the mains–at least mine is, you may want to check to be sure.
Within reason (as in not hundreds of volts) there should be no voltage limitation as the PCGU1000 will only be “seeing” the differential of what it thinks is ground and it’s output.
Perhaps one of the Velleman staff could comment on this…
The optocouplers used are 6N136.
In dataseheet: “An improved package allows superior insulation permitting a 480 V working voltage
compared to industry standard of 220 V.”: datasheetcatalog.org/datashe … /6N136.pdf
“Isolation Test Voltage: 2500 VAC RMS”: datasheetcatalog.org/datashe … /6N135.pdf
I think the power adapter isolation requirement is 3750V AC RMS.
