Hi guys,
As I was trying to change the fillament in my k8200 I tried to heat up the extruder. As I clicked to set the temp in Repetier it seemed to “crash” and gave me the following message;

The printer started acting really weird and wouldn’t let me connect after it. After some struggle I tried to search what it meant. I’m using the same power supply I always did (the velleman that it came with the printer). Can anyone help me?
I have really basic knowledge of electronics.
Start by checking for 15vDC at the blue connector where the power supply is attached.
It is running 15 volts DC The power supply is weak (as everyone knows) but seems to be working.
Is it possible the voltage coming out of your wall took a dip?
I tried it again today with a different outlet. Everything on this outlet seems to be running fine. is it possible that some component in the board shorted?
Brown out usually means the power supply is having a problem.
Make sure the screws on the blue connector are tight.
and the solder joints on the back side are good.
You may need to get a new power supply
So i have tried to cut and resolder everything i could on the power supply. It still gives me the same errors (check the pic).
I’m thinking on giving up on the power supply as it no longer seems to be a connection problem. What power supply do you recomend an equal one or a better one? I’ve seen many posts complaining that the power supply isn’t the best.
if you cant see the pic

Ok,
I see the brown out but am also seeing the min temp warning.
Do you have a short in the wires going out to the heater for the extruder or the bed.
It looks like when you start the heaters that’s when you get the brown out.
So I basically need a new control board right?
Not necessarily.
The MINTEMP warning means that the thermistor is not being read properly. You should disconnect the thermistor wires and measure the resistance of the thermistor. If this is not somewhere around 100K, you probably have a short in your thermistor wiring.
Likewise, the most likely cause of the brown-out reset is a short in one of your heater circuits. This would cause the heater to draw too much current when the controller tries to turn it on. I don’t recall off the top of my head what the heater resistances should be, but you should measure these to check for shorts in your extruder or bed wiring.
You might have a faulty controller, but much more likely just bad wiring. You’ll want to rule that out first.
Thanks for all the replies and patience. I have verified both thermistors (bed and heater) and wiring. Both seem to be a little over 100k (about 130k) but working and wiring working. Anything i should test before spending more than 100€ in a new controller?
When is this happening?
Do you get the brown out after you turn the heaters for the bed or the extruder on?
Both. Immediately after I try to heat either one. The temperature spikes are usually on the extruder though.
Can you measure the voltage at the blue connector when you turn the heater on?
It sort of sounds like the power supply issue.
It stays the same. Always on 15.4 volts +/- 0.1v. I tried turning the extruder to 250ºC and the bed to 50ºC on separate occasions and it didn’t drop.
Just to test I started the fan and it worked normally until I tried to turn on the extruder and it stopped.
Just to make sure it’s not the heater.
Try unplugging Heater 1 and Heater 2 from the control board.
Then try turning them on in the software.
If you get the brown out message I would think it would be in the board.
