K8097 -how to use the open collector output

All,

I purchased a K8097 kit and assembled it. All motors (Nema 8, 1.8°) work fine after finding the right current and speed settings.

I want to use the open collector output to switch another external device on/off.

I am not sure how to connect the external device and ask for your help.

The manual (p. 15) does not fit with the parts. When I place the open collector plug with its three cables on the socket, the brown cable would be “+”, not “-” as in the manual, and of course the orange cable is “-”, not “+” as in the manual. There is no other way to plug the three pin adapter on the socket.

In the LED example in the manual (p. 4) I would connect the “+” pole of the LED with “out +” (in my case brown cable) and the “GND (-)” with the orange cable, correct? But then what is the red cable for???

The final application I would like to realize with the open collector output is to switch a cold cathode lamp on and off. It is run with a 12 V/DC battery that is connected to an Inverter (Conrad 720398) that converts the 12 V/DC to 350 V/AC and thus lights the cold cathode lamp. Input voltage/current of the converter is 12V/DC / 400 mA, output is 350 V/AC/6mA. Currently I have a simple manual switch between the 12 V/DC battery and the converter to switch the lamp on/off. Can I use the open collector as a switch? What if the converter draws too much current? Or is this not relevant for the PCB as it draws the current from the battery? I don’t want to fry my stepper motor card …

Thanks a lot for your help!
