K8097 How to change titles in the GUI

Dear Velleman support team,

I purchased a K8097 kit and assembled it. All motors (Nema 8, 1.8°) work fine after finding the right current and speed settings. I was astonished that there is also a minimum speed (max speed value in the GUI) that the motors need to drive smoothly.

Now here are two questions:

  1. I would like to change the motor names in the GUI (e.g. “Green”, “Blue”, “Red” instead of “Motor 1”, “Motor 2”, “Motor 3”, and also the parameter names, e.g. “Up” and Down” instead of “Right” and “Left”.
How can I do this? In which files do I have to replace the names? I have Visual Basic Express 2010 installed. I am (obviously) no programmer. I do not want to program anything but just replace the names in the GUI.

  2. I understand I can use the open collector output to switch another external device on/off. I would like to switch a cold cathode lamp on and off. It is run with a 12 V/DC battery that is connected to an Inverter (Conrad 720398) that converts the 12 V/DC to 350 V/AC and thus lights the cold cathode lamp. Input voltage/current of the converter is 12V/DC / 400 mA, output is 350 V/AC/6mA. Currently I have a simple manual switch between the 12 V/DC battery and the converter to switch the lamp on/off. Can I use the open collector as a switch? I don’t want to fry my stepper motor card …

Thanks a lot for your help!

Kind regards,

Thorsten
