K8095 doens't work

hi,

Recently I bought the velleman k8095. When i power it up with 12v the control LED light up. But that’s is. On the internet i red that when led 1 is off, the k8095 is in sleepmodus. So i pressed SW1 for several seconds. But nothing changes. Only LED4 light up. that’s it. Can anybody tell me what i did wrong?
When i push sw1/sw7 I can see a voltage between 0 and 3 or so.

kind regards,

Max

In the “No LCD” version the LEDs LD4 and LD2 should be lit when the 12V power is connected.
When you press button SW1 you should get about 0.3V over R23.

You might want to check the voltage regulators.
They should be back to back.
Not going the same way.

I have also a problem with the 8095.
I have one with the LCD.
If i startup nothing is displayed on the display (only backlight goes on).
When i retract the SD card it mention NO SD CARD on the display. With card no reaction, there’s no led is lighting up. Pushing play button doesn’t do anything.
Some suggestions anyone?

Is the result same if you test with other SD card?
Are you using micro SD card?
Some micro SD cards may not be supported.

Please check all the SD card solder joints.

Hello
I have the same problem with the K9095 incl. display.
When I switch it on with 12v the Display lights up and shows “No SD Card”.
If I stick a SD-Card into the slot than the display lights continue but shows nothing at all.
No one of the LED is glowing.
I’ve tried to get any reaction by pushing the push-buttons, but nothing happens.
I’ve also tried another SD-Card, with the same result.
I have measured 3,3 V on pin20 of IC3.
If the card sticks in, I get a reading of 0,0v and after retracting there is 3,3v on pin 5 of IC3.
I have checked all the solder joints, especially the SD card solder joints, but they all seem to be ok.
What else could I still check?

Some of the SD card pins may not be connected to IC3.
Please check that there is no bent pins of IC3.
Please check also that there is no solder bridges between the pins.

Does the display act similar way in these two cases:
1:

  • Disconnect SD card
  • Disconnect 12V power
  • Connect 12V power -> display shows “No SD Card”
  • Push the SD card to the slot -> is display now blank, light on ?

2:

  • Disconnect 12V power
  • Push the SD card to the slot
  • Connect 12V power -> is display now blank, light on ?

Hi!
Thanks a lot for your response.
I’ve checked the pins of IC3 and there are no bents.
All solder joint are clean, there are no bridges.

To 1.
After connecting 12V power, the display shows “No SD Card”.
If I push the SD Card into the slot, the Display remains showing “No SD Card”.

To 2.
It’s exactly as you describe, the display is blank now and lights.
And if I retract the SD-Card, the display changes from blank to the message “No SD Card”.

Any idea, what failure it could be?
Tks in advance for your effort!

The results of tests 1 and 2 indicate that there may be no connection between one of the SD card pins 2, 3, 5, 6 or 8 and IC3.
Same effect is also if pin 3 of the card is short circuited to GND.
The SD card socket may also be defective.
Or the SD card adapter (if used) may be defective.
Some micro SD cards may not be compatible.

As a test you can also check the voltages on the alternative SD card connector J12 solder points.
(Located next to LCD connector. This connector is in parallel with the bottom side SD connector.)
The left (square) solder point is number 1.

SD card inserted:
1: 3.3V
2: 3.3V
3: 3.3V
4: 0V
5: 3.3V
6: 0V
7: 0V
8: 3.3V
9: 3.3V
10: 0V

SD card removed:
1: 3.3V
2: 3.3V
3: 0V
4: 0V
5: 3.3V
6: 0V
7: 0V
8: 3.3V
9: 3.3V
10: 3.3V

If the cause of the problem still can’t be located, you can return the kit for check/repair.

Hello
I have measured a connection between the following connections:
SD-Card - IC3
Pin 2 - Pin 4
Pin 3 - no connection
Pin 5 - Pin 20
Pin 6 - Pin 8 + 19
Pin 8 - no connection

Card-pin 3 has 11,7k to GND

SD card inserted:
1: 3.3V
2: 1.6V
3: 3.3V
4: 0V
5: 3.3V
6: 0V
7: 0V
8: 3.3V
9: 3.3V
10: 0V

SD card removed:
1: 3.3V
2: 3.3V
3: 23,8mV
4: 0V
5: 3.3V
6: 0V
7: 0V
8: 3.3V
9: 3.3V
10: 3.3V

I have tested several SD-Cards each with the same result and I think, there must be probably a defect.
The kit I’ve bought by Amazon. Should I send it back to Amazon or directly to you?

There are some 47 ohm resistors between the SD card pins and IC3.
Here are the connections in detail:
SD -> IC3
2 -> 4
3 -> R6 -> 16
6 -> R7 -> 14
8 -> R5 -> 15

1 -> R31 -> VDD (3.3V)
4 -> GND
5 -> VDD
7 -> GND
9 -> R32 -> VDD

The 1.6V on pin 2 is strange.
The 23.8mV on pin 3 is OK.

Please check especially these connections:
SD -> IC3
3 -> R6 -> 16
6 -> R7 -> 14
8 -> R5 -> 15

There should be 47 ohms between these SD and IC3 pins.
