Using the installation instructions for win7, I get an error message saying Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software. The windows-8 processor is AMD E2-1800 APU 64-bit. Is there another Driver I can try?

You will need to install it manually through Device Management.
I just got me one too, still wont be able to install with Windows 8 driver

Describe with more details what I shall do to get my Visual C++ program to work in Windows 8. (It works in Windows 7).
You will need to be very precise when describing your problem. I will assume that you did not succeed in installing the driver in Windows 8.
Instructions on installing the K8090 driver under Windows 8:
First, download the driver files:
velleman.eu/downloads/files/ … lktcdc.zip
Extract the contents of the zip file to your hard drive, somewhere where you can remember. Write down the location, you will need it later.
Go to the Windows 8 desktop view. Hold the Windows key on your keyboard and press R. Type “devmgmt.msc” in the little dialog that pops up and press Enter.
The Windows Device Manager should open
Right-click on the unknown device and select “Update Driver…”
Select the browse option:
Enter the location where you unzipped the driver files (where the .inf file is located) and press Next:
Accept the software publisher
Wait for installation to complete
Device Manager should now look like this:
The name of the COM port is visible in Device Manager, in this case it is assigned COM34
