K8076 PIC programmer kit PCB track short circuit

MANUFACTURED PCB SHORT CIRCUIT!

Hi. My electronics background goes back many decades, and experienced in PIC programming as well as all other electronics.

I have just assembled the K8076 PIC programmer.
Upon powering up, the 5v regulator became very hot and no green LED on.
After checking my work for hours, eventually found a manufactured short between two tracks on the board.
This short was not near any solder pads & the short was not due to stray solder.
Cutting through this cleared the problem.
I would like to post a photo for the manufacturers as I’m sure this will not be a one off.
Can anybody out there advise please?

Trehayn.

This is always possible, mostly it’s 1 pcs that’s defective, there is no know problem with these PCB’s from K8076.
If necessary you can get a new PCB via your Velleman dealer.
Pictures can you only post on a photo server site (flickr,…)

Dear Velleman Support

Thanks for your reply. As you think it’s not a global issue with all of the kits, and I have
corrected the problem, then it’s not worth pursuing, as all is now working.

Thanks for the support.

Trehayn.
