K8066 3W kit question

Hey guys, new here, may be WAY off base, but thoughts I’d check.

Bought a ruby amp kit and due to color blindness (bad resistyor placement i suspect)

so i went to RS to pick up some more, while there saw this kit and thought I’d give it a shot.

assembled as expected, and got nothing.

now, for the input i wired in a mono guitar input jack, and added speaker to the oputput

wired in a battery, and

nothing\HOWEVER after sleeping on it, Im wondering, for this kind of situation, would I need a preamp module as well?

I havent done anything like this ion about 30 years so things are REAL fuzzy, which is why i thought id try a kit

IF I do need a preamp could i use one of the other vellman modules like maybe this one:

(BTW - my goal is to make a cigar box amp to go w/ my CBG!)

You definately need a pre-amp.
The K8066 requires a couple of tens of millivolts for full output, while the average guitar pickup only turns out a couple of millivolts.
A pre-amp, such as the K1803 would be a good choice.
