I used the search function on the forum but did not find a direct answer.
I have 4 K8064 dimmers in use in my livingroom.
One dimmer dimms two Philips EcoClassic halogen lamps (84 Watts total)
One dimmer dimms three Philips EcoClassic halogen lamps (126 Watts total)
One dimmer dimms three normal halogen lamps (150 Watts total)
The last one dimms also three Philips EcoClassic halogen lamps (126 Watts total)
So i think that the load for the dimmers is OK, i also checked that all parts are
placed the right/good way, all 4 dimmers are constructed exactly the same.
And they all have the same fault, that sometimes the lamps start the flicker very
rapidly for some time, to my knowledge it looks that the pic is between two
AD conversions and switches rapidly between them.
Sometimes this flickering stops after a few minutes and sometimes it helps to
dimm up or down a little.
The flickering between the groups is randomly, sometimes a group flickers for
a few minutes when i switch it on and works fine the rest of the evening.
Sometimes a group is dimmed for a few hours when it starts to flicker and doesn’t
stop before i dimm up or down a little.
Times and duration are completly random, i tryed different sources for the dimmingvoltage
i even used a lab powersupply, but it is all the same.
Question is offcourse if there is a solution? especially when watching TV it’s very annoying
to have this flicker from the side of your eyes.
First we must check the brand of the triac (TR1):
Please check if this brand is Bourns (logo is some ß) or Mitsubishi.
It must be Bourns, the Mitsubishi doesn’t meet the required specs.
Ok, this is interesting… I have two spare K8064 and yesterday evening i connected
one to some lightbulbs to test if this one also flickers, and it did, so i wrote my question
on the forum.
Today after reading your answer, i checked the brand from the triac on my test dimmer,
and guess what… it has a Mitsubishi triac.
My other spare dimmer has a bourns triac (well at least it has no Mitsubishi logo and it’s
hard to see with this big coil in front of it) so i will test this one tonight to see how it
works.
I hope you can give me some time to check my other dimmers, because they are highly
integrated in my home automation.
I have to say your service is superb!, a few months ago i had i defective triac
and you send me two! new ones, and now again you take the time to help me
with this problem.
Well i checked my triacs, i had to use a dentist mirror for it
I have five dimmers with a TIC225M with a ‘Mitsubishi’ logo on it
one dimmer with a TIC225M with some kind of a B in the right down corner
(I guess this is a Bourns)
I also fitted a spare dimmer with a spare Bourns triac for a test.
I’m 100% certain that the dimmers with a ‘Mitsubishi’ logo flicker the most
and flicker very fast, also when changing the dimvalue this only helps a
little bit and sometimes after a few min/hours they start to flicker again.
The dimmers with a Bourns triac did flicker once but with a much lower
rate then the ‘Mitsubishi’ ones and changing dimvalue seems to help
much more then the ‘Mitsubishi’ ones.
