Hi,
My K8061 has worked perfectly for a few years.
Today it started smoking and smelling.
So I instantly pulled out the power supply.
Now I’m constantly getting a CPU fail error.
I can’t find any soldering mistakes myself.
What should I do?
I definately don’t want to throw it away, since it’s an awesome kit and it did cost quite a lot.
One possible reason to this may be fail in the voltage regulator VR1.
Remove all the ICs from the sockets (except IC3 - it is not powered from the external supply).
Plug in the power supply and measure the output voltage of VR1. Should be 5V.
You can measure the voltage between any GND terminal of connector SK3 and the jumper wire J2.
Hello VEL255,
I’m sorry for not responding any earlier.
I took out all ICs(expect IC3) and measured 11.41V between GND of SK3 and J2.
So that would mean VR1 is broken?
Thanks,
Jasper
Thanks for the quick reply.
I’ll buy a new voltage regulator at the local eletronics shop.
To test IC6 and IC7, can I try using a new VR1 and the old IC6 and IC7?
If the ICs do seem to be broken, can I buy them somewhere?
Thanks.
To test IC6 and IC7, can I try using a new VR1 and the old IC6 and IC7?
Yes, you can try this first.
If the ICs do seem to be broken, can I buy them somewhere?
You can buy IC7 but IC6 is specially programmed PIC microcontroller. Available only from Velleman.
