We’ve successfully used a K8061 kit for several months. After a period of not using it (nearly a year), we’ve picked up the hobby again, but we’re running into a problem.
The PC the kit is connected to doesn’t recognize the K8061 kit. We have tried to reconnect it (physically) several times. The device is not listed in the device manager at all, except for one time. That time, we were able to view the device’s hardware ID string, and it appeared to be corrupted: Vendor and Device ID were both ‘0000’, and the string ended with an array of some 10 apparently random hex digits.
We have tried several USB cables: no difference.
We have tried several USB connectors on the host PC, all of which function properly with other hardware (scanner, printer): no difference.
We suspect the USB controller chip/eeprom (labeled ‘VK8061USB’) is faulty. Is that a correct assessment? How do we verify it? How can we obtain a new chip if this one is in fact faulty?
Additional information:
Product: K8061
PC OS: Windows XP
The kit has worked properly on this Windows installation. The motherboard of the host pc was exchanged a few months ago for reasons unrelated to the current issue.
Status of the kit’s leds when it is connected to the PC: ‘Power ON’ led is on, ‘USB’ led is off, RX/TX led is off. RUN led blinks (as it normally did back when the kit worked as intended), Digital In1-8 leds are on, Digital Out1-8 leds are off.
USB address of the kit: 7 (all jumpers open); problem persists if this is changed.
We have disconnected the kit from all external hardware, except the stock power supply (wall wart type) and the USB interface cable.
Maybe the driver installation has corrupted.
You should delete the current driver and download and install the latest driver.
Does the Device Manager’s device list update if you plug or unplug the K8061 USB cable?
Have you tried to find the driver by selecting View -> Show hidden devices in the Device Manager?
You may search the K8061 driver under “Universal Serial Bus controllers” or under “Custom USB Devices” or under “Other devices”.
If found, delete it.
Then download the latest software package for the K8061. It includes the latest USB driver for the K8061.
Here is the link to downloads page: velleman.eu/support/download … 8061&type=
Download the “Complete software package edition 2011”.
Thanks for your quick reply.
We did all you suggested including the the new 2011 software. It makes no difference. After connecting the KT 8061 board via a USB-cable to the PC in my opninion Windows should see the new hardware. It does not, even when we before remove the mchhpcb.sys driver as well as k8061.dll and mpusbapi.dll.
We still suspect the VK8061USB prom.
We use the KT 8061 as an interface between a PC and a ceramic oven which worked well for almost 2 years. But the oven was not used the last half year. In the meantime the PC was upgraded with a new motherboard (and works fine for month). This week we tried to re-use the ceramic oven but now the connection between the PC and the KT8061 failed.
Please give us some help.
Can you test the K8061 card in other PC?
Plug the USB cable in and install the latest driver you downloaded.
You can test the card operation with the demo software included to the downloaded software package.
Thanks for your advise. I tested the KT 8061 board on another PC. This PC runs Windows 7 as well as Lunix. In both situations the KT8061 is not listed in the number of USB devices which are connected to the USB Hub. My conclusion it is hardware malfunction of the KT 8061 board. Are there any suggestions what I can do? Maybe it is possible to test the VK8061USB chip.
Looking forwards to your answer!
Before installing the driver, the K8061 can be listed under “Other Devices” in the Device Manager.
If not there, and not under the “Universal Serial Bus controllers”, then the K8061 unit may be defective.
It indeed looks like a defective KT8061 board because the board is not detected in other devices and not in Universal Serial Bus controller. The only solution is buying a new KT8061?
