Hi, I have just built the K8060 kit and when powered up using Maplins recomended NO4BA transformer it fried. It is 35V toroidal, is the voltage to high in this transformer and if so why are Maplins recomending it. Thanks.
2x35V is too high, it will overstress the amp but it will not destroy the amp immediately.
Strange, Maplin advertises the N04BA as a 2x30VAC transformer, which is OK.
Most likely, you did not perform the lightbulb test.
We recommend a 24-30VAC transformer.
In your case, replace all semiconductors, this is the safest and fastest way to solve the problem.
Yes, Maplins advertise it at 2 x 30VAC but when measured it is actually 2 x 34VAC when not under load. Looks like i`ll have to rebuild and try a different PSU.
