K8056 PIC Problem

I purchased the K8056 (Serial) 8-Channel Relay kit and two K8090 (USB) 8-Channel Relay kits to control my Christmas Lights and assembled all three kits. The 8090’s worked perfectly without any issues… but the 8056 on the other hand is not working properly.

With 12v applied to the board, pushing the TEST button sequences the 8 relays on in order. But the board does not respond to RS232 commands at all (even the “Show Addr” or “Emergency Stop” commands). I’ve checked the levels with an o-scope, and the signal is getting properly ‘converted’ by the zener diode and transistor to a 5v logic level at the PIC, but it’s not responding to any serial commands, so it would appear that the PIC itself is defective. (Note: Testing was done with the 8056 Demo program from the web site.)

So how do I go about getting the PIC replaced? I’m from the USA.

Thanks!!!

Jeff

Our experience learns us that PICs either work or don’t work, we never had a PIC that ‘partially’ works.
If the test button works, the RS232 input should work fine too.
A couple of hints:

Make sure the jumper on the right hand side (remote) is put in place.
Make sure remote config jumpers are set to ‘normal’ and ‘RS232’.
Try revering RS232 polarity at the input of the card.
Check in the software that the address has not accidentally been set to ‘0’.

Hi!, I’ve been reading because i have similar problem. I have a k8056 with a RF k8058. They were workig yesterday (and since 2008) without any problem. Today the board seems to receive RF Data but it doesn’t do anything. The test button works and the configuration jumpers are ok. So, could you recommend me something??

Did you try the ‘force address’-function of the remote, to restore the address of the card?

!That’s it!
Sorry for the stupid silly question :unamused:
Many years working fine, i forgot that the system had configuration mode.
Thank you very much.
