K8048 won't program

Hi, I have assembled the K8048 board yesterday but it won’t program. I receive the error message “No pic on board; …”.

LEDS7-9 generally behave as they should (7 is on, 8 only when I press the “Write”-Button in the PIC programmer and switch is set to “PROG”, and LED9 blinks when the switch is set to either PROG or RUN). But what is strange is that when I press one of the SWT1-4 in Standby Mode LED9 does also blink. When I remove the PIC this does not happen. Is this correct behaviour?

Any ideas what the problem might be?

P.S.: Since I also tried with a Linux program that should work with this board and it failed, too, I’m quite sure that it is a hardware problem.

Best regards, flint

Ok, I now bought a 16F84A. It now does stuff like Disable Code Protection with Status OK, but when I want to write it says:

“Write error at 0000: Wrote: 280A, Read: 3FFF”

Also with this PIC it happens, that when SW5 is set to Standby Mode and I press any of SW1-SW4 LED 9 is blinking. Again my question: is this correct behaviour or does this indicate an error in assembling it?

And if it does indicate an error in assembling, what could I do to find that error?

i have exactly the same problem and it is bugging me as ive yet to program i PIC. I’m a student and money is tight so spending money on this device i thought would solve problems ive encountered (from other PIC projects on the net) but it hasnt. Flint, if you get any info or support i would appriciate if you could share :stuck_out_tongue: lol its really bugging me and anything to try is good for me

So you also have that LED 9 blinking in standby mode when you press any of the SW1-4. Because this seems quite strange behaviour to me. I’ve tried to find out more by looking at the schematics and testing connections but so far I have no clue. But maybe sometime somebody from Velleman will give a hint here.

hi

i’ve the same problem, LD9 Blink when i’ve pressed the sw…

But for me is impossible to write programs to my PIC…and when i read data i’ve 3FFF in al memory

Please help us!!

In the thread “K8048 Reads but won’t Write” user factor grimm writes:

"I can also add that, when the switch is in the MIDDLE position, AND there is a pic inserted, pressing any of the SW1 to SW4 causes the “do not remove pic” LED to flash at full brightness!

Is this behavior correct? Does it suggest a probable cause? "

This disappears as soon as he can program the PIC correctly. So this does not really indicate a hw problem.

I’ve tried now with the picprog2006 but it doesn’t work either. It behaves strange, sometimes it says “No Velleman programmer connected”, then it says that the pic types do not match (but gives me no message, what type it thinks is in the board).

So what else can I do?

the thing when sw1-4 is pressed and LED9 turns on i think thats normal because its reading off the pic when its pressed. even though it seems like a design flaw i think when the switch is in standby mode the power is still going through the circuitbut one of the transistors are off. My problem is also where i cant write to my PICs nor can i read a preprogrammed one (comes up with 0000, or 3FFF)
