K8042 Heatsink?

Hi,
I want to use this to power a signal processor which needs 12 V/300 mA. Will a heatsink be necessary?

That depends on the input voltage you are going to use…

So more than 2.5 Watts are dissipated by the LM317… I would recommend a heatsink.
