I am thinking of partnering a pair of K8040 power amps to my audionote preamp kit. The only problem I have is that the audionote preamp output impedance is 3K ohms and the K8040 input impedance is 15K ohms. Given that ideally the ratio of impedance from preamp to power amp should be 10 times or more (in this case only 5 times) I wonder whether anyone can comment on what problems I might have with this combination?
3K is very high, I suspect a tube amp.
If such an amp is loaded with a too low impedance, distortion may rise and/or the max. output level will drop.
Thanks for your reply, it is a tube amp. I suspected there would be a problem.
Imput impedance is mainly determined by R31 (15K).
By increasing this resistance, you will increase the input impedance of the amp.
You mean just simply replace the R31 resistor of 15K with say 60K. Would there be any adverse impact on the power amp do you think?
33K would be a better value.
Should not influence power amp specs.
Thank you very much for your advice!
