K8031 general questions

Hi,
i’m interested in buying the K8031, anyway I would like to have some info.

  1. Is it possible to use it with a pcmcia parallel port adapter? This is a must, since I plan to use it with a laptop.
  2. Is a detailed documentation of the parallel port communication protocol available?

Thanks!

Most probably the K8031 doesn’t work with the PCMCIA card.
Please see the following threads for more info:

Sorry, no detailed description of the LPT port communication available.

I don’t understand your answer. You say that “Most probably the K8031 doesn’t work with the PCMCIA card”, but from the threads you point to seems like the contrary. As I understand from these topics, as long as the parallel port on the pcmcia card has a physical IO address and you can enter it into the software, it should work… Just confirm me if I understand right. And, ok, usb is out of discussion.

Yes, it may work if the PCMCIA adapter supports direct hardware access to the LPT port.

So can you confirm that software is able to access IO addersses like FF00-FFFF, FE00-FEFF that are typical for cardbus lpt adapters?

On the startup screen of the PCLAB2000SE software it is possible to enter the port address in hexadecimal form. So, it is possible to enter e.g. FF01.

Thanks very much for your help!
