K8028 Dimmer Function 5 Problem

I am using a K8028 Dimmer using function 5. I am using this PCB to control night lighting for a model railroad. I have a separate module for day light (yet to be installed)

I have the Delay1 & Delay2 timers programmed at 7 minutes.
The Dimmer is attached to 3 85 Watt blue incandescent flood bulbs installed on track lighting. totaling 255 Watts.

Everything functions great until just before the lights go out on the slow off. At this point the lights begin to flicker aggressively. The problem only ceases if I remove one of the three lights.

If I am correct this PCB is designed to handle 300 Watt?

I have traced all my wiring, double and triple checked my earth ground, I’m puzzled as to what the problem may be other than too much load on the board.

I welcome and help offered… Thanks

Steve Hofmeister

Update: I’ve double checked all my solder points, everything appears fine.

Strange problem.
The load may be till 300W (USA @ 60Hz.)
The problem could be the triac in combinatiation with your specific load.
I don’t know if you can exchange the triac ? if so, try first with the same type TIC225M, or exchange it with a B137X-600E.

I have been able to find the TIC225M through my local sources, not having any luck locating the B137X-600E. Do you happen to know where I could locate these in the USA?

Hey Thanks Wrong Way & VEL456,

I had to order from Newark and Mouser in order to get both part numbers headed my way, hopefully these (Either Or) will fix this problem. I will post again once I swap them and test to let you know the result.
