K8009 / K8059 - Lost remote / Hand wired setting capability?

Can the clock setting functionality be restored without using the K8059 Remote Control PCB?

Purchasing a new remote is too expensive.

I am hoping to breadboard a wired remote using two switches / two diodes / maybe R5 & C6?

It seems as if the IC is not used since the directions do not flag the battery clips installation with a “pound” symbol (#). How can a chip work without power? That is unless the power is derived from the display PCB; I quess I am sunk if this is the case.

I am hoping the simple up / down settings will be available without all the complexity of the chip. I just want my cool clock back!

I would also need a circuit board x-ray of the lost remote PCB as the connection points are NOT shown on the schematic (+ of the transmitter / - of the transmitter / connection @ R1 on the transmitter). I know from the documentation where to install these wires on the display PCB - I do NOT know where to connect them to my planned hand wired remote. I would also need to know what purpose “J1” performs as it is NOT shown on the schematic either.

Wired operation:
Remove IC3 and IC4 from their sockets.
Pull pin17 of both IC’s to +5V with 10K resistor.
Provide 100nF cap from each pin17 to GND
Connect pushbutton from each pin17 to GND.

After review I do not need to attach a image. Your modification instructions were spot on. My initial confusion was your instruction to “remove IC3 and IC4 from their sockets.”

I wrongly assumed that these chips were required for operation and needed to be returned after the mod. That is not the case as these chips are the wireless decoders.

I performed your suggusted mod by plugging a new socket into the existing socket. That way the resistor / cap / switch addition will not harm the the existing design. The chips can be returned at a later date - or when I find the misplaced remote!

Needless to say, your modification is perfect and has restored my clock to operation.
