I built the kit and ran all the tests which it appeared to pass (R33 measured 34v). I took the option to omit R61 (subwoofer only).

When connected to either a speaker or line input the following problem occurs :

There is a slight hum and hissing from the speakers.

Music is heard from the speakers and the volume responds to the controls on the main amplifier but the level control on the subwoofer amplifier has no effect.

The filter control on the subwoofer amplifier has no effect.

Which areas of the subwoofer amplifier should I check and how?
