K7103 and windows 7

Hi,

I’ve got the kit K7103 scope. Now my old computer broke down, and I bought a new one with Windows 7.
When I try to install the windso_fg32_1_25 it says that this version isn’t compatible with the version of windows.
I then installed the XP-mode feature of windows 7 and installed the windso software in there. The installation succeeds, and I can start the application, however I now get the message it doesn’t get a hardware response.

can you please help me?

The problem is that in the virtual XP mode of Windows 7 there is no direct hardware access to the LPT port.
This “low level” access is needed to operate the K7103 oscilloscope.
The same problem is with USB to parallel port converters.

If the problem is only with the installation program, you may try following:
Download this ZIP package: box.net/shared/ny0kk9bpkq
(The link is updatad - file DLPORTIO.SYS was missing from the previous package.)
Extract it to a folder and run it in Windows 7 (not in virtual XP) WinDSO_FG32.exe.

Thanks for the fast reply.

I unzipped the file and I could start it, however I get the message:
“Could not open the DriverLINX driver.
please run INSTALL_DRV.exe to install the driver.”

I did what is stated and rebooted my system. However I still get the message.

Is the Windows 7 a 64-bit version?
If yes, then the DriverLINX driver doesn’t work.

64 bit.

Sorry - then there is no solution - I think. :frowning:

Do you mean that this software won’t work at 64 bit?
but it does work at 32 bit? also in Windows 7?

I’m not sure - may work in 32 bit Vista (or maybe 32 bit Windows 7).
I have no experience.
I have used it only in 32 bit Windows 2000 and XP.

I found this information about the DriverLINX driver:
keithley.com/support/data?asset=52508

I can check it out for Windows 7 32 bit.
I will let you know if it works.

Hi,

I can confirm that the WinDSO software is running at Windows 7 32 bit.

Are there any updates planned for the old software, will it be possible to use the K7103 in the new PcLab2000 software?

Thank you for the reply. It is good to know K7103 can be run on 32 bit Windows 7.
The software WinDSO_FG32.exe for the (obsolete) oscilloscopes K7103, PCS32 and PCS64i is no longer developed.
The PcLab2000SE supports only the new oscilloscopes in production.

Are there library’s on wich I can create my own software, like there is for the PCS1000 and others?

Sorry - no such library for the K7103.
For Linux something like that seems to be:
k7103.sourceforge.net/

Hi,

I am working with the K7103, I’m trying to connect it to my new netbook (with winsows 7), which has no Parallel port. I am using the Usb to Parallel converter (PCUSB13) from velleman. The WinDSO software can not connect with the K7103 and my computer recognizes the USB device as “unknown”.

Is there a solution for this problem?

thnx

It is not possible to run the K7103 with USB to parallel port converter.
You may find some more info from this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=312

Here some customers got a PCMCIA to parallel adapter to work with an LPT port connected oscilloscope:
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3307
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3911
viewtopic.php?f=10&t=569

All parallel port based devices of Velleman won’t run with any USB adapter. Including the PCUSB13 sold by Velleman.

One exception are special-built adapters with user firmware, e.g. this one:
www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~heha/ba … zi/PCS500/
Such adapters require special software, i.e. the closed-source Velleman software will never run with such adapters.

Parallel ports on PCMCIA, PCI, PCIexpress will work. ExpressCard only if PCIe based, not USB based.

For Windows 64 bit, dlportio.dll + dlportio.sys is useless, and Velleman software won’t run. Fake it to have Windows 98 using this special build of inpout32.dll:
www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/%7Eheha/ … -h%23s.zip
and try the command line “rundll32 inpout32,CatchIo program_to_start”.
