K4700 connectors

I see K4700 using some pin type PCB connectors:

  • Where can i buy the corresponding plugs/sockets?
  • Does this kit come with any (i would quite like to buy more)
  • Does the wire solder into the socket or crimp?

I have seen these connectors used elsewhere, i like them but am struggling identify what they are and especially a plug/socket supplier in UK.

Thanks

The place where you bought the kit would be a good place to look for connectors.
The kit does not come with connectors.
PCB pins are solder only.

I’ve just signed up to ask this very question!

Yesterday I was in Maplins (one of the UK chains that carry Velleman kits) but could not find any suitable mating connectors in their range. I’ve also spent an hour or two on the the site of one of the big electronics suppliers looking for something suitable, without success.

Would someone from Velleman be able to tell us who manufactures the pins, and if possible give the manufacturer’s description and/or part number?

That would help narrow the search!

Thanks in anticipation

Mark

Your reply confuses us.
The PCB pins are meant for soldering wires to them. They are not ‘connectors’.

I must say this is the first time I’ve heard of soldering wires to pins!

About 15 years ago I built a preamplifier kit that used these pins, and had slip-on mating connectors. Also from that era I have a DAC which uses the same pins for its power supply connectors. The mating connectors have a diamond cross-section, and a tab onto which the wire is soldered. IIRC the originals were silver plated.

So they do exist - just that I have no idea what they are called, who makes them, and how to hunt through the phenomenal variety of connectors offered by the likes of RS and Farnell to find the right one (I also wonder whether they have been discontinued).

Most likely it exists, but using them for audio is a guarantee for bad contacts and troubles.
Nothing beats a soldered joint.
