I am planning on building a 4channel amp (2 K4005B’s in stereo mode)
for this I want to use 4Ohm speakers. however, i can’t find the specified 300VA 21V Transformer. the closest thing I can find on the site of my distributor, and even on the site that makes the transformers velleman specefies is the 300VA 22V version. there is no mention what so ever of the existance of an 21v version.
Do you know somewhere I can obtain a 300VA 21V transformer anywhere in western europe, or would the 22V transformer do the job??
Thanks! I have another question, but I don’t know if the right place to ask is here…
I intend to build my own speakers, wich will be 60W RMS at 4 ohm. In this case would it be best (soundquality/performance) to use the K4005B wich produces more power than the speakers can handle or the K4004B wich produces only 50W rms, thus less than the speakers can handle.
I don’t need the system to run on full volume all the time, far from it, I to have neigbours!
But if I’m not mistaken, the K4004 makes shure that I can never blow up my speakers
Yet with the K4005 the amp wouldn’t have to work nearly as far to its upperlimmit
It is better to have an amp that can deliver more power than the speakers can handle, and use it wisely.
A too weak amp goes into clipping very easily, and it’s the clipping that harms the speakers.
Just out of curiosity, wat hapenes if I built the K4005 and K4006 and use the 300VA 22V transformer (4ohm stereo configuration)
but than hook up 8 ohm speakers??
will this in any way do (or increase the risk of doing) damage to the amplifier, or wil it just not give the expected power?
I hooked up 8 ohm speakers to an profesional power amplifier that has 4 ohm outputs and that never gave me any trouble…
I also read on other forums that this usualy isn’t much of a problem (with keeping respect to the limits of amps and speakers ofcourse)
could you advise me on the consequenses for this particular situation?
the reason I am asking is that I plan on building my own speakers (wich will be 4 ohm)
but since this whole project is running towards costing me about 700 euros I was thingking of spreading the costs (first building amp later building speakers)
