I purchased two K4003 kits in South Africa last year and assembled them, the first one functions perfectly, when I built the second one however the IC TDA1521 got very hot and broke. I tested the circuit with an oscilloscope and cannot find any faults on it. I’m using a centre tap 12 V transformer which gives a DC voltage of approximately ±17 V.
I obtained a replacement IC TDA 2616 expecting this to function without a problem however this chip also gets very hot very quickly.
Please could anyone inform me if they’ve ever had a similar incident with this kit and if so what the solution is?
I’ve looked at the circuit diagram on the Velleman web site for the latest K4003 and see that it is based on the TDA 2616 IC too. The circuit doesn’t look any different than the TDA 1521 based circuit.
Could anyone confirm that there are no major differences that I have overlooked when changing the chip on the PCB from a TDA 1521 to a TDA 2616?
I’d really appreciate any tips, comments or information.
