K1823 mods for hi-end audio preamp use

Hello,

I built a K1823 power supply to supply the power for a hi end preamp from Pass Labs (B1 Buffer preamp).

It draws a few mA only, and everything works fine.

Anyways, I was wondering if replacing the C4 cap (2200uF) with an audio-grade cap (Black Gate, Mundorf SI or Nichicon Muse) could improve the sound. what about C2?

Is it a good idea to replace these caps (C4 and C2) with some of greater value (like 4700uF or 10.000uF)? Would it provide better filtering?

I was wondering because in the K8042 symmetric power supply that I also use in several projects, and whose schematics are is quite similar, the values for the C1 and C2 caps (which correspond to the C4 cap in the K1823 kit) are completely different (in my case, it was supplied with 470uF caps for C1 and C2 were 470uF caps, even if 1000uF was mentioned on the manual).

thanks for your help and advices
Denis

From my opinion it doesn’t make any difference in sound quality.

The capacitors in K8042 must be 1000µF.
We haven’t received any complaints, and i have check the stock, this was Ok -> 1000µF was incl.
You may send me a picture of your kits with the wrong capacitors

Good to know… well, I am not at home til august, but I will re-open the K8042 and replace the cap. I will send a picture to you by then. But I won’t make any complaints, I have enough 1000uF caps at home, I’ll just replace them with the right value.

Anyways, how could it be that the K8042 has 1000uF caps and the K1823 has a 2200uF cap? Both circuits are similar, using the same voltage regulator.

Yes, K1823 has 2200µF.
This will not make any difference when used for audio.
