Just curious... :)

Just wondering… Do you guys unload your filament when you’re done printing?
Or do you leave it in and let it cool down together with the print head…?

I generally unload it when I am done printing for the day.
I also cut off the part that has been through the extruder because the gear has put teeth marks / prints whatever you want to call it in the filament.
It may be a waste but I don’t want my next print to be messed up.

Me too… Especially with these stories going around about clogged up nozzles.

Only problem is (and here is the real reason for my question ;)) the printer is at my office.
We sometimes have print jobs that take 20 hours so i don’t want to stay waiting around.
At the moment i have a webcam pointed at the printer so i can remotely check the progress and i have teamviewer on the pc that is running the repetier software. But when the print job now finishes i have to drive to the office to unload the fillament…

Would be great if i could give a command to the printer to unload…

I don’t think it would hurt to leave it loaded until you get back to your office the next day.
The only reason I unload it when I get done for the night is there have been a few times I didn’t get back to it for a few days and that’s where the problems started filament breaking in the tubes and at the hot end.
Nothing I couldn’t recover from but it’s a pain to clean up.

I never unload the filament… leaving it as it stays…
Did it with stock nozzle and doing it with E3D V6

I never unload it either and never had a clogged nozzle because of it.

Ok… thanks for sharing

The only reason why I would unload my filament is to prevent that my filament absorbs moisture. But I have to say I only do that with PLA and also only when I know I won’t be printing the next few days.

Once I unload the filament I store it in a closed container with some moist absorbers.

I never unload it.
