How to set up Cura?

i really want to use Cura but i don’t know how to set it up

I’m using Cura with this settings (with white PLA):
https://mega.co.nz/#!DQs3nD5K!G2G6vEM-v_7Hvx5g-htYoklI-JMUeFkbxFIJYs6FVe0
To import the profile, go to File->Import Profile->(the *.ini file you’ve downloaded.

thank you so much

I’ve tweaked the settings a bit yesterday:

Which extruder do you use, because the nozzle size is 0.3 in your parameters ?

I’ve the standard extruder which comes with the printer. If I set the extruder diameter to 0.5mm in Cura, there’s a little spacing between each line of filament. In Slic3r, I’ve set the extruder to 0.5mm and it just works fine, so I don’t know why Cura isn’t slicing good with the extruder set to 0.5mm.
In Cura, the object to print also isn’t placed in the middle of the printbed.

Ok thanks

Because i had random stops and no satisfying results i started trying Cura.

I used SpackofiX his setup with some tweaks to my own.
For instance, set the nozzle to 0,5 mm which works for me.

I printed a spool cone and finally i got a nice product, in even faster times than Repertier.
Printed with 0,3 mm layer height.

I can probably get good results with Repertier with some tweaking but the random stops are killing.

For the moment Cura is the software for me.

While i was printing i had a few times that the printer stopped for a few seconds, but he resumed by itself with no further issues.
I also got an error log but they are not visible in the product.

Not sure what it means.

Nice result. I’ve had some random stops too while printing direct from the pc, but since I’ve set up my raspi as printserver, everything’s normal.
If you slice the design with Cura, is he printing in the middle of the bed or in the corner near to x=0, y=0 ?

would there be any way of actually printing direct with Cura?

I refuse to use slicer now in prefference to Cura but its a pain pulling in the Cura Gcode to repetier.

Yes, you could print direct out of Cura. Go to Machine->Machine settings, then select your port and baudrate in the last two fields. When you’ve loaded your design into Cura and connected your printer, anywhere in should be a button to print it directly (I think direct above the 3d-design).

Most of the time i print in the middle of the bed.
I think i will re calibrate the z axis because the first layer acts strange.

But overall i am very satisfied with Cura.

It is way easier than repertier, it gives you real time adjustment of the est print time if you change something.
This way it is ready for instant printing with the print button.

I printed another self designed item that came out really nice.

I am starting to enjoy the printer now.

Now i need to make a good fan duct and a nice housing for the print.

where can you add the pla.ini settings for the k8200 when I print it does not start in the middle but at 0.0.0?

file/open profile for loading the ini file.

I used the white PLA ini but still the printing starts at home point and not in the middle of the printbed although the print is in Cura in the middle?

There is a setting in the machine settings i believe where you can set the zezo point of your machine.
Look for that, maybe there is a wrong value there.

Mine says 0,0,0 at that entry.

I’ve also the problem the printer isn’t printing in the middle of the printbed (but still on it).
Maybe, you’ve enabled the "printbed center is x=0, y=0 option in the machine settings?
Your machine settings should look like this:

Yes I did see that I clicked 0,0 I removed this and now it is OK the speed of Cura for slicing is amazing compared to Slicr.
Thanks all for help I just received my E3D hotend will try this, I am really pleased with my printer as it stays an ongoing project that will never be perfect but needs attention like a pet.

Hi,

i’m pretty new to 3D printing and even to this forum, but i saw a question where i wanted to answer to…

To start in the middle of you printbed, my experience till now with several slicer progs learned me that when your bed size is 200x200 the bed center should be 100x100  so maybe this will solve the problems i just foound here.

What i’m are looking for are some perfect settings for the velleman in one or another slicer program. I would like to have some smooth prints with less “bourders” on the side of an object, wich is out current problem actually. So smooth sides should be nice :-).

I will try Cura in the future, now i only worked with Repetier/Slic3er and Kisslicer, i once opened skeinforce too but for me there were just waaayyyyy to many buttons :-D.

To center the object on the bed i Cura just use this Start gode:
