How to improve the first layers

Hi

I just finished assembling my printer yesterday and have tried printing some things.

I have a little problem with some of the first couple of layers. Here is an image of a print I just made

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3995146/2015-02-02%2016.21.43.jpg

As you can see I get this “rim” around the print (left side). some prints has it from first layer and 0.5mm (ca.) up, others like the one in the picture, goes a couple of layers up, before it begins and then it goes away again.
I saw the nozzle “pushing” some of the filament from the previous layer when it happened on this print.

The bed has been calibrated to 0.35mm and the rest of the prints look fine.

What setting should I be looking at, to make this stop? Not sure why the nozzle suddently can hit the previous layer, so I guess I’m using to high or low speed or something.

Any tips for a newbie?

It could be that the first layer is a bit to closely printed to the buildplatform?

It’s not only the first layer. It’s 4-5 layers and then it suddently stops and the rest of the print looks perfect. Have tried different speeds on the layers but haven’t had any luck to fix it yet. Not sure where to start, in the printer or the software

Looks like overextrusion on the first layer.

Did you set a higher flow rate for first layer?
Also recheck your nozzle distance.

Not sure why, but it seems like I found a solution. If I set my nozzle size to 0.38 instead of 0.35, my prints are ALOT better, so I’m sticking with this for now.

It’s really important to set the right settings for the nozzle size because it’s necessary for the filament feed rate.

Cheers,
Dylan

Since this is a kit they will all be different and have their own personality.
