Help on support material

Hello,

I’ve been experimenting with support the last few days and learned allot about it. I already had some satisfying results so far. But now I wanted to step it up and try to print the statue of liberty:

I don’t really find a setting that looks ok. The problem is that the book and torch has to be supported, the rest would come out ok I think. When I find a good setting for those 2, the head gets supported too and I think that’s not really necessary. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Edit: I checked cura, the support generated there looks more promising, but I only printed once with cura, so for now I would like to stick with Slic3er

Wait 5 hours … I’m printing the same thing :stuck_out_tongue:
Without supports: big problems like you say.
Lots of supports are generated now. I hope the statue will look good when supports are removed.

To get less support you have to :

  • use Slic3r >= ver. 1.0.x
  • set the overhang threshold at a low value (25° or even less).
  • angle the pattern to suit your needs
  • increase pattern spacing.

You’ll have to try different values and see what Slic3r makes with them.

I printed it with standard Cura settings for overhang, printed it completely hollow in 1h30 minutes:

Just a bit problems with the crown, the rest looks OK. I’ll print the building tomorrow. I’m starting to like cura :stuck_out_tongue:

Printed in 4.5 hours with supports and result is rather good.
