Filament flow

I am a total beginner of 3D printing since Dec 23rd. I’ve got some really good help and suggestions here, I must say that it is a really good community here as everybody seems to be very helpful!

To my question; Does the ‘Filament flow’ setting adjust to the current speed of the printer, or is it a constant variable that keeps pushing filament at an even rate all the time (Except when traveling)?

I hope you understand what I mean.

Are there some kind of manual or guide that explains in a good way how the repetier settings work for a beginner like me?

Regards
Mike

Actually, the filament flow is a slicer setting (Cura in this case).
The amount of filament extruded per second is computed by the slicer from the filament diameter and the nozzle diameter. It might happen that when printing, the actual amount of filament extruded is too important or too low. With the flow parameter you can increase or decrease this amount.

Thanks for your answer, but I think that we may misunderstand each-other?

If the filament flow is consistent (same rate, speed) through out the print regardless of actual printing speed it would mean that the layer(s) get thicker when printing is slower, and thinner when printing is faster?

Why I wonder is if I need to increase the flow when I increase the print speed to get the same result.

Hopefully this question make sense :-/ English is not my native language…

No, you do not need to touch that setting with different speeds.

It is only a quick and dirty way of telling the software to use more or less filament than it calculates itself.

Ok, so no need for different flow settings with different print-speed settings then

I’m just trying to learn:
Why is it a “dirty” way?
When I reduced the flow to 70% then my prints started to look as expected. Is there a better way to adjust this?

Well, the “correct” way is to measure the filament diameter amd calibrating the extruder output. After this the SW knows everything… In theory…

However 70% sounds a bit low imo…
