I keep getting this error when I try to write to pic16f84a. The kit worked flawlessly several times but suddenly started giving the error and stopped after it had written exactly 8 bytes of the program - always the same thing. I thought it was a burnt chip but it did the same with a brand new pic16f84a too. The connections seem to be ok, though I don’t really know what to look for in case of a board dysfunction. Changing the software settings or the program to write didn’t help either.
Can you please mention what board you are using (K8048 or K8076)?
Sorry, I thought I mentioned it but it seems not. My board is K8076.
In addition I guess it’s good to mention I’m using PicProg2006 version 2.0.2.6 which I think is the newest one. Any help is appreciated.
Check your power supply, it should be 15VDC, check the connections between ICSP1-2 to SP5-6.
If you made the serial cable yourself check for bad connections. Run Hardware Dataline Test.
Voltages:
Orange - Red = 5VDC
Orange -Brown = (around) 13VDC (when LD4 is on)
If no effect try to erase the pic with the ‘Disable Code Delay On’ option, if no effect try to write another pic.
Hello
My configuration :
K8076
PIC16F876A
picprog2006_rev2_2.zip
Starting ICP-programming, I always get these messages :
- “the settings don’t match the pic in the programmer. Continue?”
–> YES
… - "Error Writing to Pic "
I had try this additionally with ‘LVP’ but it is still the same.
All signals measured directly at PIC-Pins are looking well:
- Vpp is 12-13 VDC (LD4 is ON)
- PGC is a 6 Bit clock
- Vcc is 5 VDC

Hello, Just bought the 8076 kit and I get the same message “The settings don’t match the Pic in the programmer” … what needs to be done? I cannot programme my 16F84A pic …
My Bad,
By changing the HW config => Menu Function -> Hardware Configuration -> Hardware Delay, to 10 (slow), then it is working fine … Not sure why but it works
Do you compile your program succesfully?
I beg to differ because the box says
Power supply 12 to 15V DC, min 300mA non-regulated adapter
I’m using a 12V non regulated adapter capable of delivering 800mA and my board is suffering communication errors.
If it MUST be 15V DC then you’re mis-selling these boards and wrongfully describing them.
A 12VDC non regulated adaptor delivers 15VDC
Hmm I’ll have to look into that a bit more then as my power supply is only a 12V supply. Cheers for the tip.
I am using K8076 and I am keeping getting this error “Error Writing to Pic” when I try to write to pic16f84a. I connected my Broad to the laptop by using USB <==> COM. Furthermore, I am using a regulated adaptor delivers 15VDC.I was using PicProg2009
Hello,
I had this error message too, and to solve it : Function->Hardware Configuration -> Set Hardware Delay to 2 !
Hope this will help you !

The specifications for the K8076 explicitly state “IMPORTANT not compatible with USB to serial (RS232) convertor !”.
