I am having trouble with getting my new HPS50 scope to
download data to my PC. I have downloaded Velleman’s
programme off the web, but obviously I have missed
something. I have saved two separate scope traces to memory
and have opened up the programme on the PC. I then have
connected to the scope via the COM1 port and the PC screen
lights up the “disconnect” button, indicating that it is
connected? I have even created a file to receive the data
under the “capture” button, but to no effect–still a blank
screen. I have checked that the scope’s file format is
“binary”.I also have tried closing and re-starting the scope
as the manual indicates that data transfer can occur during
startup. Is there anyone out there that has done this
successfully? If so, please send me a step-by-step procedure
as I am at a loss to fathom what I have missed. Regards,
Royce White.

The software has a Capture button, which exports the signal that you see on your screen to a bitmap. A bitmap (.bmp) is an image, which is why a camera icon was chosen in the software. That image can be opened in almost all graphical software (even Microsoft Paint). The software needs to be in binary mode for the HPS50 software to be able to show a trace. The software does not record the raw values to a file.
