Connecting K2568 displays with K2574 counter?

As counter for a cycling club we have bought KIT K2574 ( Universal 4 digit up/down counter with comparator and 4 pieces of KIT K2568 (20 cm display).
The digits of K2574 have been removed and is used as triggering of each digit (letters a, b, c, d, e, f and g for each segment) by directly connecting the wiring to display K 2568. See picture
De common cathode of each display is connected to earth K2574.
20 cm displays with 24 volt and K2574 with 5 Volt. Both stabalized.
By adding through IN pulses to K2568, all the 20 cm discplays are showing the same figure. The first puls after resetting shows 1 1 1 1 and the secong puls shows 2 2 2 2, etc. After the 10 puls the figures are no longer predictable.
The kit K2574 with the 4 kingbright SC52 -11HWA operates as counter and comparator perfectly and shows the right figures.
The advantage of this counter that the comparator allows you to predefine the half, quarter and eight final by putting an 2, 4 or 8 in front. The K8035 does not offer those features.
The description of K2568 states:
This kit contains a 7-segment display consisting of 12 LEDs per segment and 4 LEDs for the decimal point. Using an additional power supply, which does not have to satisfy any strict standards, it may be easily connected to existing circuit.

How to connect those two kits together?

Both kits have been obsolete for almost 10 years now.
We have searched our archives for information on this matter but unfortunately we were unable to find useful information.
Should something come up, we will post it on this forum.
Most likely, pull-up or pull-down resistors for each segment will be required.
