Hi all
Has anyone tried printing using Brassfill or Bronzefill from Colourfabb. If so, how did it print? I see that E3d also sell it. As the Brassfill is still experimental, I wondered if anyone had any hints and tips. It’s a bit more expensive than normal - naturally - as it uses actual metal within it.
I think I will have to buy a roll and give it a go.
Cheers
Peter
Hi All
Well, I finally got some Brassfill and have given it a go. Interesting stuff. It is very soft and bends very easily. I have only printed a couple of test pieces so far, but I am reasonably impressed. I am using an E3d v6 head with a 0.4 nozzle. I have got a Hobb Goblin hobbed bolt for feeding, and so far had no problems. I did slow the feed rate down quite a bit to make sure it does not stick. As I said, the filament is very flexible, and it might just ‘ripple’ if it is pushed too much. So far I am using my standard PLA settings in Cura, but I will have to try altering the temperature. At the moment I am running at 206 degrees, but it does ‘string’ slightly at that. It is a trade off between the stringing and flowing easily. The finished print sands down very easily with fine emery paper. I started with 120 grit, then 600, then 1200, then liguid polish on a cloth. Being soft, it is easy to scratch the finished surface, so you need to be careful.
This is the printed ‘brass’ plaque for the side of my steam engine. The black background PLA needs to have a coat of matt paint to take off the shine, but the brass effect looks good. Difficult to photograph well !!! Considering this was a test print, I am very pleased with it
This is the engine it will be going on. The headlamp is 3d printed as well in PLA. So far it has not melted with the heat from the chimney…
