Bottom Fan duct (Creation)

I didn’t like the bottom fan just blowing all over the place, so I made this fan duct to guide the air over the motherboard instead.

Nice mod! I am going to use something similar that also protects the mainboard.

Cheers,

Just wanted to chime in and say this mod seems to do nicely. Certainly it does what it says on the tin and the air goes only where it should. That is, until Murphy decided the fan itself should seize up. A little WD-40 seems to keep the peace, though…

One of my first prints after the UPS cover when i noticed the warmth of the motherboard:

Of course, since this was my second print, i wanted to test the abilities of the vertex(which is my first 3d printer) and so i gave it some thinking. the first one seen below, has holes through and a 45degree angle on the sideflap(providing air to the board) which proved too little and the through holes required m3x40 bolts which i didn’t have at the time. It did however show me (and surprise me even) what is possible. All the fillets and the thin-ness of the part is great stuff:

On the one shown on the first pic i made hexagon holes for the nuts which although i’ve drawn a them as 5.6mm hex, were pretty tight, telling me how holes behave and i made the side flap at 60 degrees. Shaped like this it gives a great flow of air over the board and right now, almost finished with a 4h print, there is no heat at all comming from the board.
